Eight new recruits joined the advertising and creative industry in the north west this week, as McCann Manchester welcomed a new cohort of apprentices.

The group of talented individuals, join the 18-month long programme first launched by McCann Manchester in 2011. All have been recruited across different capabilities and are set to make their mark and contribute fresh perspectives in digital marketing, TV production, project management, social media, and content creation.

Commenting on the recruits, Louise Buchanan, head of talent at the 400 strong agency said: “Today marks another milestone in our commitment to nurturing young talent and fostering creativity within our industry. We like our counterparts are working hard to address the talent shortage in our industry and our apprenticeship programme is just part of our ongoing strategy to do just this.”

Since its inception in 2011, this programme has become a launchpad for emerging young talent, with 46 apprentices successfully completing the scheme and 41 of those graduating into permanent roles at the agency.

One of those graduates is Amy Mayers. Mayers from Stockport joined the scheme at McCann over 10 years ago and now holds the role of post production manager at CRAFT, McCann Manchester’s in house production department, working on projects for clients such as Aldi and Matalan.

One of the eight new recruits, Sharon Akubuo who has joined the digital marketing team said: “ I am looking forward to developing my experience whilst creating work that brings about positive change in the lives of people and our society. The advertising agency has the privilege of being able to shape change."

Oliver Jones who joins the account manager team said: “I’m looking forward to being part of the journey going forward at McCann Manchester and being able to work with a famous retail brand is a real bonus – I can’t wait to get started.”

McCann Manchester remains steadfast in its commitment to fostering a culture of diversity and inclusion, recognising that these values are integral to driving creativity and innovation. In 2022 it announced a partnership with the higher education facility, UA92 in Manchester in a bid to help bring students one step closer to the industry.
