Kevin the Carrot, the nation’s favourite Christmas hero, has returned to spearhead discount supermarket Aldi’s Christmas campaign following his nail-biting ordeal after an avalanche caused his truck to swerve off the road.
The 60-second film, which launched on Friday 9 November at 7pm during ITV News, follows the teaser that has run for the last week and left viewers on tenterhooks as to whether Kevin would survive after last being seen behind the wheel of a truck teetering on the brink of a cliff.
The commercial introduces Kevin’s nemesis Pascal the Parsnip, who is out to cause mischief for Kevin, his wife Katie and their three children: Chantenay, Jasper and Baby Carrot. Striving to save his family from the clutches of Pascal, Kevin manages to overcome his evil schemes throughout the fairy tale adventure.
Aldi’s Christmas commercials will run throughout the festive season and will feature Kevin retelling well-loved bedtime fairy tales, including ‘Kevin the Carrot and Pea-nocchio’, ‘Katie the Carrot and the Fairy Cake Mother’ and ‘Kevin the Carrot and RhubarbStiltskin’.
The 2018 campaign, which will run in the UK and Republic of Ireland, has been created by McCann UK following Kevin’s highly successful debut in 2016 and his return in 2017.
Jim Broadbent returns to narrate the festive adventures while viewers may also recognise the soundtrack from Edward Scissorhands.
