A pensioner who made her TV advertising debut in 2011 for value retailer Aldi has been recognised after the advertisement was voted the UK’s favourite TV commercial of 2011.
In a survey conducted by market research firm, Nielsen, McCann Manchester’s work for Aldi beat off competition from the likes of brands including John Lewis, Comparethemarket.com and Volkswagen to claims the top spot.
The ad which has already won multiple awards this year, was devised by McCann Manchester Executive Creative Director Dave Price and Creative Director Neil Lancaster and features a pensioner declaring she prefers gin to the cup of tea her husband likes.
The ad is part of a major ongoing campaign (Like Brands) developed by McCann Manchester which has helped drive annualised sales growth of 25% over the past twelve months.
